Abstract
Generally, profit from income statement give a signal that common stockholder will get return, but the profit does not give a guarantee that the company has good financial performance. Condition of financial performance can be measured with several method, such as ROE an EVA. Return on Equity (ROE) is the indicator of company’s profitability, and Economic Value Added (EVA) can explain how much value added is created. The objective of this study is to measure financial performance of Gudang Garam Company with ROE and EVA method, find factors which determine the method, and the comparison of analysis between those two methods. The period of this research started from 2005 to 2009. This research used comparative analysis research method and it will describe where is the better method between Return on Equity (ROE) and Economic Value Added (EVA). Based on the result of the analysis, Gudang Garam Company ROE is fluctuative but it will get better. EVA Gudang Garam Company almost gives positive results except in the year of 2008. Based on management purpose and calculation accuracy, EVA method is better than ROE in order to measure company financial performance.
